If you die while you’re still working for IMI, your dependants will get a lump sum of five times your basic pay, called death-in-service benefit.
The value of your pension will also be paid to them, at the discretion of the Trustee. It’s really important that you fill out an Expression of Wish Form to make sure the money gets paid as quickly as possible to the right people.
You can choose anyone you want to receive the money – it can be family members, but it doesn’t have to be. The Trustee decides who gets your death-in-service benefit and the value of your pension but, as long as you fill in the form, they take your wishes into account.
It’s easy to nominate the person – or people – who you’d like to receive the money but you must have activated your Mercer Money account in order to do this. If you haven’t done so already, activate your account now.
